Chillventa, the Nuremberg, Germany-based biennial event that is one of the largest HVAC&R trade shows in the world, has been postponed until 2022, with a digital congress now scheduled to take place on the original dates, October 13-15.
NürnbergMesse GmbH, which is responsible for holding the Chillventa trade show made the announcement on June 3, citing the COVID-19 epidemic and associated travel restrictions and economic uncertainty as the primary reasons for postponing the event.
“In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and the current international economic situation, we assume that if we held Chillventa this year, it would not be the success our customers would prefer,” said Petra Wolf, a member of NürnbergMesse’s Management Board, according to the company press release.
NürnbergMesse plans for Chillventa to “resume its normal sequence” on October 11-13. 2022. The Chillventa CONGRESS will begin the day before, on 10 October.
NürnbergMesse is still exploring options for digitalizing parts of Chillventa 2020 in October. It plans to offer “a platform we can use to hold the Chillventa CONGRESS, for example, or the trade forums or the product presentations in a virtual format, so we can satisfy the need to share knowledge and provide a dialogue with experts for experts,” according to the company website.
“Although a digital event is certainly no substitute for personal interaction, we are working at full speed to hold parts of Chillventa 2020.”
Decision based on survey
To gauge the mood of the industry, NürnbergMesse carried out an extensive survey in May of the more than 800 exhibitors from around the world who registered for 2020 and all the visitors who attended Chillventa 2018.”
“The results informed our decision to cancel Chillventa for this year,” Wolf said.
The survey revealed that exhibitors were unable to commit to physical events. “Reasons include the current global uncertainty, which also affects the refrigeration, AC, ventilation and heat pump industry, and is dampening investor enthusiasm, causing revenue losses and interrupting production,” said Wolf.
In addition, limited business activities due to government regulations and international travel restrictions are making it more difficult for trade fair participants in many locations to plan and prepare their attendance at events,” she said.
